ECD, Energy Conscious Design, is a practice offering architecture and energy & environmental consultancy services.
ECD has 28 years of experience in designing sustainable, energy-efficient buildings that achieve low-running costs, are low-impact on the local and global environment, and are of flexible and robust designs that will sustain generations of use.
We have extensive experience in a variety of building sectors including residential, education, commercial, healthcare and arts & leisure, which gives us the ability to transpose beneficial ideas across the sectors.
Our method of design is based on a belief that every project should be approached from first principles. Our architecture is contemporary, contextual and environmentally responsible. We believe that buildings should respond positively to their context and contribute towards creating a sense of identity.
From the outset we also like to agree a clear sustainability strategy for the project, one that identifies targets that are realistic and achievable. We adopt an holistic approach to sustainability, embracing social and economic as well as physical issues.
Buildings must be capable of adapting to changing requirements in the future and flexibility is a key design issue. We are keen to ensure that services are easily accessible for future upgrades and that emerging technologies such as photovoltaics can be retrofitted easily.
