Richard Ferraro studied at Nottingham University and the Regent Polytechnic in London. Between 1973 and 1980 he worked as an architect with Dominic Michaelis Associates in England and France on a series of high quality, innovative, solar-heated buildings; in 1980 he became a founding partner of ECD Partnership; now a Senior Director of ECD Architects Ltd with overall responsibility for ECD's work on projects in four different sectors.

Richard has wide experience of the design and construction of medium and large scale projects for both private developers and public clients, and for public/private partnerships. He's been responsible for numerous low energy buildings at ECD, several of which received awards. His work has included urban regeneration and masterplanning commissions, medium to high density housing, bespoke office buildings, R&D buildings, industrial parks and mixed use town centre buildings, including retail. He has also completed two large scale distribution and logistics centres at Greenford in West London; the award winning Banbury Museum; and the new Royal Ballet School in Covent Garden.

Richard is also an expert in the refurbishment of 1960s housing (including tower blocks), and in building procurement.
