ECD Architects have been appointed by Croydon Council to design the consolidation of Rockmount Primary School in Upper Norwood. The existing Infants and Juniors are in separate buildings, but through the refurbishment, rationalisation and extension of the Junior School, the whole school will be accommodated on the same site.

The designs are to achieve BREEAM 'Excellent', which will be assisted by on-site energy generation through a ground-source heat pump and passive cooling using air driven through an underground labyrinth.

The design has been considered to complement the existing red brick building, using red terracotta tiles and self-coloured render on the prime elevations, accented with faience tiles in the school colours (yellow and blue).

The consolidated school is to open in September 2007.
